| ART WORKSHOPS IN GUATEMALA Join Nance for an amazing workshop in Guatemala
this Fall
Explore the heart and soul of Guatemala by photographing her people during the spectacular festival of TODOS SANTOS. You'll have many opportunities to photograph indigenous Guatemala - at colorful markets, weaving their trajes, but the most fun will be on November 1, All Saints Day. Guatemalans celebrate this day by crowding the cemetaries to visit with family and friends. They bring flowers and food, celebrate life, then write notes to their loved ones, attach them to kites and send them up to the skies. What a fabulous opportunity to stretch yourself as a photographer while being totally immersed in one of the most colorful locations in the world. Nance spends individual time with each participant, reviewing their work and helping them map out a way to achieve their photographic goals. During daily class sessions, Nance discusses the basics, such as how to get the best possible image with only the natural light available to you (she shoots exclusively w available light) - gear, self-editing IN the camera, appropriate backgrounds and tips on working with people. There will be assignments and critique sessions where she'll use the computer as a learning tool to demonstrate cropping and impact with your images. Nance also discusses shooting with respect. Her work is proof that a photographer can be considerate of the culture he/she is in and respectful of the people he/she is shooting and still come away with beautiful images with impact and a message. You'll come away with a great images. Shot respectfully. "The workshop was a good value. The instruction was very good and I felt challenged to come home and continue the learning. This experience was rewarding for me in several ways, and I'm very pleased to have participated. " Jan Grady 2/05 "I enjoyed the other participants in both workshops,
and Nance really "Wasn't quite sure just what to expect but got a great deal out of the course, far more than I anticipated. Best of all was the one-on-one time with Nance. I learned so much from her. I thought the value was excellent plus!!!" Dorothy Sturges 2/05 "When I was with Nance I said, "Sometimes
I feel that if I can't photograph it, there's no need for me to experience
it. If I can't bring my camera in,... I move on." This trip reversed
that thinking. When one woman we spoke with at the graveyard in Santiago
burst out crying remembering her son,... I knew it didn't matter that
I couldn't get this on film. It was about so much more than taking the
picture. If /when I return to Guatemala, it will be to see these families
and meet even more people.
